A speaker at a franchise conference looked at me and whispered ominously “Neel, at 50 units, all hell breaks loose….beware”
Ok he didn’t actually look at me and it wasn’t nearly so ominous, but it felt like he was talking directly at me because the message resonated so deeply. We’re at 40 units and almost going to reach this spooky “all hell breaks loose” mark.
So, I tracked him down after his talk and asked what he meant.
Turns out "emerging franchise" isn't just a label. It's a warning. The systems that got you here — the software, the avatar, the way you launch locations — probably won't get you to the next phase. And the brutal part? You have to figure out what's not going to scale BEFORE you're too big to change it.
