THE SCOOP

Just got back to LA after two months in Rwanda (p.s. if you haven't gone to Rwanda yet, check it out...most underrated country I've ever been to). My bags are barely unpacked, and I'm already deep in the biggest decision I've been sitting on for over a year.

We need to switch our core CRM. The booking platform every single one of our franchisees runs their entire business through. Not because it's broken — it works fine. BUT....fine isn't going to cut it at 100 units.

Here's the thing about software: it's EXTREMELY sticky. If you're switching, it better be a 50-100% improvement over what you have. Anything less and the pain isn't worth it.

I break down how I'm thinking through this decision — and the messy landscape I'm navigating — in this week's DoF vlog, check it out below.

📹 Diary of a Franchise Ep. 4: Ripping Out the Core

The software we have in place now is adequate, but they aren’t innovating, and they aren’t going to help us scale to 100 locations and beyond, so we have to make a change.

In this week’s DoF, you’ll hear my thoughts on the process of looking for replacement software, including my 80% rule (at the 2:40 mark if you want to jump to it), and why I’m excited about making this difficult change.

If I am going to change core software, it has to improve performance by at least 50%.

Don’t settle for marginal improvements when making big changes.

MAIDTHIS BIG WINS
🥇 First Booking

We had some recent graduates from MaidThis University, and as you can see, one of them recently made the first sale for the location.

But what I really love is how the entire system celebrates with them.

THINGS I’M LIKING RN
🗞️ Private Equity Roll-Ups

Smart money is moving to boring businesses.

I just saw this stat that blew my mind: PE deals for HVAC went from 8% to 23% in literally one year. 88% jump.

You're seeing the biggest consolidation in home services ever. If that's not on your radar, you're sleeping on what's actually happening.
