THE SCOOP
👶 Prepping For The Best Kind of Interruption
By the time you're reading this, I probably already have a newborn. I'm recording this pre-baby, and I'm about to find out what paternity leave looks like when you're your own boss, and nobody hands you a policy.
I asked around to other entrepreneur friends: how long did you take off? Turns out, answers were all over the place. Part of me wants to take the max amount of time to actually be present for this. Part of me knows I don't want to fully unplug either. When there's no default setting, you kinda have to make one up.
This isn't actually my first time forcing myself offline. Back in 2022, I did a 10-day Survivor-style trip on an actual desert island. No phone, no wifi, no food. And the wild part wasn't the trip; it was coming back and realizing I didn't need to pick everything back up. Some things I'd been white-knuckling just...stopped being mine to hold.
So this week was less about baby prep (though yes, diapers, a LOT of diapers) and more about doing that same exercise on purpose. Payroll, bill pay, credit cards, admin logins, the stuff I keep telling franchisees to delegate but somehow hadn't delegated myself.
What I actually managed to hand off, and what I'm still holding onto, I get into in this week's DoF vlog. Check it out below.
VLOG OF THE WEEK
📹 Diary of a Franchisor Ep. 12: Becoming a Dad

I managed to snag my first Father’s Day a few weeks after becoming one officially. Still learning (and will be for a long time) and am always open to hearing tips.

THINGS I’M LIKING RN
🏀 Don’t Miss the Important Stuff

I was scouring the NBA subreddit (as I do every single day to see the most recent Lakers news), and came across this gem. An NBA player named Chris Paul was reflecting on his career and about how many life events he missed by getting involved with basketball. A Redditor commented this below, and I thought it was extremely profound to provide a reality check on how fast time moves.
