🤝 The Thing I Swore I'd Never Do

This week I did something 5-years-ago me would've been furious about: I signed up with broker networks.

Quick context if you're not in the franchise world: brokers connect prospects to brands, and they don't get paid by you, they get paid by taking a cut of your initial franchise fee. We're talking something like a 50% cut. When I started MaidThis, I looked at that number and said hell no, and grew to 40 locations almost entirely organic.

BUT....there's a phrase that's been stuck in my head lately. "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

I'm not a fan of the "got a pulse, we'll sell you" energy that some broker networks have. Which is exactly why I was picky about who I actually partnered with.

After years of resisting, I’m pleasantly surprised with what I’ve observed across the different broker networks I’ve joined. The key for me is to stick with smaller networks — I don’t feel like just a number or a cog in a major brokerage machine. Skip to minute 3:44 for a hot take that may get me in trouble.

$30k is a great milestone no matter how long you’ve been in the business, but it’s especially cool to see when that franchisee has actually been around a long time but has only really kicked it into gear in the last nine months or so. It reminds everyone that the business really does respond directly to the work you put in.

I was never very much into soccer (spoken like a true American), but I went to my first FIFA match in Los Angeles and the crowd was absolutely electric. I’ve been absolutely crushing the most recent FIFA games and having a ton of fun getting into this sport.
