🔄 We Stopped Chasing Digital Nomads

This week, I'm changing up the format and doing a more conversational-type episode with my guy Stephen. Stephen’s been with MaidThis since 2018 and basically knows everything I'm working on, so we sat down and talked through something I don't think I've ever fully explained: how the MaidThis avatar has changed since day one.

When we first launched, we started out chasing digital nomads as the franchise avatar made sense at the time... I did it, so I figured there had to be more people like me out there. Turns out, a normal digital nomad is a very different type of person from a franchisee. After that, it morphed into "side hustle friendly," until a mentor of mine once asked me a question that kind of wrecked me: if you could pick between 70 full-timers or 70 part-timers, which grows faster? I already knew the answer. I just didn't want to admit it.

When I first started iterating the type of franchisee I wanted for MaidThis, I figured I would start with what I know best — or rather, who I know best… aka, someone like me.

I very quickly realized that there were not a whole lot of people like me out there in the world. Not to say that I am this amazingly unique person, but there aren’t many people who can get full-time results while working part-time or 100% remotely. And ultimately, I wanted those full-time, boots-on-the-ground-at-least-most-of-the-time results.

One of the ways we’ve led in the marketplace is with Airbnb cleans. We leaned into that early in our journey when many competitors were happy just staying with residential clients.

When you do well with a few properties, property owners trust you with more, and one of our franchisees shared a nice win recently.

I remember listening to this podcast when I was trying to build a side hustle, leave my corporate job, and live the digital nomad laptop lifestyle. That side hustle eventually became MaidThis Franchise.
